A spoon is a surprisingly important travel item and one that you wouldn’t really expect to need constant updating. However, I have been through quite a number of them.

The wooden one on the left lasted for quite a while, after a run of hopeless plastic spoons that broke and melted, but it succumbed finally to a flaw in the wood grain. The vile plastic number was an emergency measure, discovered in a moment of need on a beach in Cuba. I am not particularly in favour of metal spoons but this one will do for the moment.
