people and bikes

A Frenchman on a seriously overloaded recumbent. A recumbent looks like a slightly eccentric choice of vehicle for this particular route -- to me, at any rate. He is pushing when I first spot him, as I ride down a long sandy descent towards San Antonio de Cobres. When I ask if I can take a photo he mounts the beast but I can't see him actually riding much in the next few days on his way into Chile. The Frenchman has some Argentinian pesos I have Chilean pesos and so we come to a deal* regarding currency exchange and pass on our separate ways.

* A fairly disadvantageous one for me, I must say, as he seemed to be utterly unaware of the blue market rate of exchange for Argentinian pesos and wasn’t much interested in educating himself on the subject.

Ah, Alexey and his extraordinary steed! Wouldn’t want to be on that thing on some of the roads he seems to go on…

I never got his name. But it was an extraordinary encounter.

Good on him for being out there, whatever his choice of steed…..
